HEAD TO HEAD
Three matches were abandoned, there was one no result and one match was tied.
The first List A match between the two sides came in the 40-over Player’s County League at Johnson Park, Yeovil in July 1969.
After winning the toss Somerset Captain Brian Langford asked the visitors to bat.
Greg Chappell was the destroyer-in-chief, claiming three for 34 from 7.2 overs as Essex were dismissed for 126 in 38.2 overs. Peter Robinson also claimed two wickets.
However during the visitors innings the Somerset skipper Langford bowled his maximum 8 overs without conceding a single run- setting a record that will never be beaten.
Somerset also struggled with the bat and slipped to 82 for eight.
However, 36 from Chappell and 26 not out from Graham Burgess saw Somerset reach their required target from 39.1 overs to win the match by two wickets.
